WhatsApp 2.19.308 for Android brings Fingerprint authentication, splash screen and minor optimizations

Since a while WhatsApp has been testing Fingerprint Lock feature for Android on beta versions. It’s simply one of the nifty facility which should’ve been available on the messaging app since long ago. Nonetheless, as they say, “better late than never“, the Fingerprint Lock is finally live on the stable WhatsApp with the latest version 2.19.308.

WhatsApp 2.19.308 is available on Google Play Store as a part of staged roll-out. It’d take couple of days for the update to be visible on every compatible devices over there. Well, the option to download and sideload the APK is always open for which you can get the file down below.

The fingerprint lock will be available on devices with Android Marshmallow and above. Obviously, the device should feature fingerprint sensor as well. Once updated, supported device users can make use of the facility and secure their chats. In order to do so, head over to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint Lock. Enable the toggle and you’re good to go.

WhatsApp makes use of Android’s Biometric APIs, so your fingerprint data is only used on-device for authentication and not sent to Facebook’s servers. So, users concerned over fingerprint data can take a deep breath and relax.
The latest stable version also marks the debut of Splash Screen with WhatsApp logo. Can’t wait to try out the latest update? Get the APK from below link and sideload.
