While Qualcomm’s latest high-end Snapdragon 835 SoC currently powers and will further be powering several flagship devices for 2017. There are rumors already heading up about the upcoming Snapdragon 845. The profile of Qualcomm’s Senior Staff Engineer on LinkedIn revealed that the company is currently working on incorporating the X20 modem with the Snapdragon 845 chipset.
The modem supports LTE Category 18, which means that it can achieve download speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. Moreover, it also uses 2x20MHz carrier aggregation (which widens the network pipeline allowing more traffic to flow freely) that allows upload speeds to be as high as 150Mbps. Just like its predecessors, its latest premium modem is built on the 10nm FinFET process.
According to Qualcomm, the X20 has been designed and developed considering the upcoming 5G technology. The X20 is a big leap as we move forward to the 5G era. Earlier this year, several OEMs were provided with the samples of the X20 modem.
Qualcomm’s flagship SoC is expected to be released sometime in Q1 of 2018 and will be powering most of the flagship devices to be released in 2018.
