Most of the Samsung’s current mid-range devices boards nearly two years old Exynos 7870 under the hood. Hence, is little outdated and exhibits fair performance in latest Samsung mid-rangers running more advanced and latest Android. Now, Samsung has officially unveiled a tacked up version of the SoC, dubbed as Exynos 7872. To provide extra power capable of bearing the ever advancing Android OS even better.
The new Exynos 7872 comes under Samsung’s Exynos 5 series chipsets alike the previously unveiled Exynos 7885. The embedded system is fabricated based on the Samsung’s 14nm FinFET LPP process.
Being an Hexa-Core chipset, it comprises of two high-performance ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2GHz and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz for carrying out feeble tasks. The Graphic Processing Unit(GPU) integrated on the chip is ARM’s Mali-G71.
The Exynos 7872 consists of a Cat.7 LTE modem capable of 2CA (Carrier Aggregation). The modem is supposed to acheive a theoretical download speed of upto 300Mbps. For other wire-less connectivity options, the chipset supports dual-band WIFI (80211. b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 5.0, and FM Radio.
Supports Iris Sensors And Advanced ISP
Additionally, the chipset is claimed to feature an advanced ISP (Image Signal Processor) and MFC (Multi-Format Codec) compared to its predecessors. Though lack of dual-cam support is bummer, it can hold up to 21.7-megapixel front and rear cameras. Interestingly, the iris camera sensor up to 8MP support will probably bring the Samsung’s Iris authentication method to mid-rangers.
As it’s obvious the new chipset will be powering Samsung’s own budget segment devices as well as some Meizu devices. And, the recently announced Meizu M6s being the first device to flaunt the Exynos 7872.
