Yesterday, at IFA 2015, Samsung showed off Gear S2 watch. It is the successor of the Gear S watch which was launched last year. Samsung showed us few things about the watch at the event – one of the best thing we got to know is that now any Android device can be attached to the Gear S2 watch which was earlier restricted to only Samsung devices.
To use this functionality of attaching to any device can only be attained if following conditions are met:
- Android 4.4 or higher
- 1.5 gigabytes of RAM.
Samsung Gear S2 is coming for sale in the month of October. The all-new Tizen-based smartwatch features a new circular design, and is the beginning of a new generation of wearables from Samsung.
Samsung Gear S2 Specs
There are three variants of watch that are announced. All three versions of the Gear S2 sport a 1.2-inch AMOLED display — properly round — with a 360×360 resolution for 302 pixels per inch. Gear S2 is powered by a unnamed dual-core processor running at 1GHz. It’s got 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM. It’s IP68 certified for dust- and water-resistance. It’s got 802.11 b/g/n Wifi, Bluetooth 4.1 and is NFC-capable for Samsung Pay.

Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 SDK Tools
The SDK tools are available at Samsung’s Developer website. They include
- Enhanced Standalone Features: Developers can create enhanced standalone Samsung Gear S2 apps with network, call and location-based APIs, with the freedom to connect to 3G networks without a smartphone.
- Web and Native Apps: Developers can also build both Web and Native apps with the new SDK. Tizen Native APIs enable them to build fast, light-weight and beautiful apps with EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Libraries).
- Support for Android: Connect to Android phones, including but not limited to Samsung models. Wider device coverage will help to reach more users.
