The first existing Galaxy to get updated directly to the latest Samsung Experience 9.5 based on Android Oreo 8.1 came out to be the Galaxy J5 (2017). As you know, the device which ships with Android 7.0 on-board is getting its first major update to Android Oreo 8.1. For now, the update is rolling out on the J5 (2017) units in Poland.
Note that, the international unlocked variant of the Galaxy J5 (2017) with model number SM-J530F is recieving the update. The OTA update bears baseband version J530FXXU2BRH5 and bundles the latest August 2018 security patch as well. As the update has finally started rolling, at least in Poland, it wont take much time to reach on other regions and J5 (2017) models.
Samsung has the tradition of pushing higher edition of an AndroidOS to its budget devices, especially on the J5 iterations. Recall, the 2016 iteration of Galaxy J5 was updated directly to the Android 7.1.1. While other devices including the flagship S-Series and A mid-rangers got its slightly dated, Android 7.0. This year as well, the update regime seems to be in the same line.
The new and powerful Galaxy Note9 comes pre-installed with the Samsung Experience 9.5, and does the Galaxy Tab S4. However, since they’re the top-line products their version of softwares should pack plethora of features that you cannot find in the Galaxy J5 (2017) Oreo. Nonetheless, all the goodies of Android Oreo 8.1 and other Samsung proprietary features are up for the device. Also, the J5 users can make use of the Good Lock app if they need additional UI customizations on top of it.
Have you installed the latest Android Oreo 8.1 update on your Galaxy? If yes, we’d be please to know the improvements that you’ve noticed so far compared to the Android 7.0 Nougat.
