[Update: December 2023 Security Update] Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Update Tracker

A Couple of days back, Samsung officially launched the brand new Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) with a 6.5-inch display and Exynos 990 Chipset. In camera, it features a 12-MP + 8-MP + 12-MP Triple rear camera and a 32-MP single front-facing camera. The device comes in 6/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage capacity.

• [December 26, 2023]: Samsung has released the December 2023 security update to the 4G and 5G variants of the Galaxy S20 FE. The new software update for the 4G version of the Galaxy S20 FE comes with firmware version G780FXXSEFWK8. This update is available in Asia and Europe. The update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G is available in Colombia, Ecuador, and Guatemala with firmware version G781BXXS9HWL6. The update fixes around 75 security vulnerabilities discovered in the previous version of the software.
• [December 19, 2023]: Samsung is updating both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the Galaxy S20 FE to the December 2023 Security Update in the US. The new firmware build numbers for the phone are G781USQSEHWK2 and G781U1UESEGWK1, respectively. In Europe, the same update comes with the build number G781BXXS9HWK8.
• [November 30, 2023]: Samsung rolled out the November 2023 Security Update to the Galaxy S20 FE in international markets. The US version of the phone is now picking up the latest security patch. The update is available for carrier-locked units with the firmware build number G781USQSDHWK1.

The update comes with firmware version ending in HWI7 and brings new security fixes. As it is a monthly security update, it doesn’t include any significant changes apart from the bug fixes, improvements for apps & system performance, optimizations, etc.

• [March 18, 2021]: The Verizon-based Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has now started receiving the March 2021 Security Patch update. So, the security updates usually accompany user-reported bug fixes, improvements, optimizations, etc.

The update appears on the G781BXXU1ATJ1 Firmware version, and it is rolling limitedly in various countries. As of now, there’s no official Changelog from the company. So, the update might also include bug fixes for known issues, optimizations, and improvements.

Like all other updates, it is also spinning out in a phased manner and is expected to reach all the smartphones within a week. You can also check the update manually by navigating to Settings > Software updates > Check for updates. Also, make sure to switch over to a WiFi network to avoid carrier data charges.
