A recent report from Wall Street Journal states that Samsung is currently working on its own Bixby powered speaker. It has been an year now when it was first reported that Samsung is engaged in developing its AI-powered speaker. Project ‘Vega’ as referred internally by Samsung, is impending from a long time, due to the fact that Bixby’s English version is still unavailable.
Samsung is struggling to enter an already competitive market, which is currently dominated by major players like Amazon and Google. While Amazon Echo leads the market with almost 70 percent share, Google Home holds the next place after its entered the segment last year.
Further, Microsoft is all set with its Cortana-based speaker to launch this fall, things are getting more irksome for Samsung as the last entrant. Samsung biggest challenge is the lack of data with the company, for which it has acquired Haman Kadon, an audio-visual equipment company.
Bixby is unlikely to roll out fully until second half of July, indicating that the ‘Vega’ smart speaker is not expected to be unveiled anytime soon. In order to make its presence felt, Samsung need to get on top of the existing Bixby issues and come up with something unique and smarter than other competitors.
