Xiaomi is already busy in launching new devices, recently they have come up with the Mi ^ and now rumors are that they are coming with Mi 6C. Later, Mi Max 2 is revealed with huge display and high performance Snapdragon chipset. Well, amid of all these big launches, Xiaomi launched Redmi 4 in India last month. Last week, it went on flash sale in India via Mi Store and Amazon. It is going so popular due to its high end specs at a lowest possible price. Today, we going to do a review of Redmi 4, so that you can know what it is and how does it performs with the given specs.
Xiaomi redmi series packs some budget devices, which packs outstanding specs at reasonable prices. These devices counts maximum number sales in the overall sales of the Xiaomi devices. There are many series of different devices that are available in this series, namely, Redmi 3 Series, Redmi 4 series, etc.
There are different variant of devices in Redmi 3 series i.e Redmi 3s, Redmi 3 Prime and Redmi 3. Further in the 4 they have Redmi 4A, Redmi 4s, etc.
The device we are going to talk about is the redmi 4 which is available for Rs. 6999, 8999 and 10,000.
Xiaomi Redmi 4 annocuned few weeks back and it is powered with Snapdragon 435 processor and have different RAM with different variants. Let’s start the Review of the device:
The design of the Xiaomi Redmi 4 matches that of Redmi 4a i.e it has premium metal body. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 metal body gives it a smooth and well refined look as that of phones witt with Plastic build. On the edges it feels smooth, sometimes it may leap to slippery surface.
Further, on the front side, there’s a earphone piece along with a camera shooter. On the bottom of the screen there’s feather touch buttons. Along with the navigation buttons, there’s a LED notification light under the home button.
On the Back side, there’s a 13 MP rear camera shutter the left bottom side with LED flash. Fingerprint is present t the back side which is positioned at center.
On the top of the Xiaomi Redmi 4A, there’s a 3.5 mm Audio jack (thanks to Xiaomi for not making it dead), and Infrared port is also present.
The bottom side of the phone packs standard microUSB port. Further, on the both sides there are speaker grills present. This is the standard look of devices which come packed with Fingerprint sensors.
The dimensions measures at 141.3 x 69.6 x 8.9 mm (5.56 x 2.74 x 0.35 in) with a weight of 156 g (5.50 oz).
Overall, it feels a solid device while holding it in hand. Obviously its 5 inch display allows you to use it with one hand if you have slightly longer hands. It is a best fit at the price it is available.
This is the most visible thing on the device, so OEMs give more emphasize in developing the displays for devices. So is the situation with the Xiaomi Redmi 4, they have added with the 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. Xiaomi has dressed up in the beveled metal frame with tapered edges that rests comfortably in your palm.
Further, there is 450 nit high-brightness, 1280 x 720 resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio and
72% NTSC color gamut.
The display is protected with 2.5D covered glass protection. It feels comfortable to see the display content in full daylight. It automatically transforms the brightness as per the need – automatic mode.
It in-built on Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 435 chipset Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. It has a a Adreno 505 GPU. The phone has 2 GB/ 3 GB/ 4 GB of RAM. It packs a 16 GB/ 32 GB/ 64 GB of internal memory that can be expandable up to 256 GB via Micro SD card.
If I say overall performance of the 2 GB RAM and 16GB storage version. Then it gives outstanding performance with huge little lag when we open more than 15 apps in the background. I think it is not the scenario of usage for normal users. If I talk about 3 GB RAM version, then it give much more space to the apps to perform as per the need. The 3GB RAM variant performs in much open way in comparison to the 2 GB RAM version.
The 4 GB RAM is unusable for a normal user, device is not going to use it until unless you need 10-15 apps and you are working simultaneously.
So, if you want to buy for a normal use then go for 2GB or either 3GB RAM version.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 runs on the Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) based on MIUI 8. It packs most of the features that a user want. Further there are some enhancements in this devices:
Lock screen wallpaper carousel – As like of Honor device, Xiaomi has also given the carousel of different images from the lockscreen and home screen. It can automatically change your wallpaper on different instants.
Your private Second Space – Use different passcodes or fingerprints to use different profiles on your Redmi 4, each with its own wallpaper, apps, files, and photos.
Dual Apps – Two is better than one. Be amazed with our native Dual Apps feature, which allows you to create and sign into dual accounts for any app. That includes WhatsApp, Facebook, and more!
Universal infrared remote – You can Remotely control your TV, set-top boxes, air conditioner, fan, and DVD with your Redmi 4. Easily switch channels or even preview TV programmes that are now on air.
Xiaomi redmi 4 packs 13 Megapixel primary camera and 5 Megapixel secondary camera for selfies and video chats. The primary camera capable of 1080p@30fps video recording. It includes Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama, phase detection autofocus, LED flash.
Here’s another image showing off the Redmi 4 camera skills:
Video recording is also a much needed job for any smartphone device. Xiaomi Redmi camera gives out HD video at 720p. You can have a look at teh sample video to know about the clarity of the video.
Further, here’s its time lapse feature explained in the video below:
As far as the camera is concerned, we are fully satisfied by the performance of its shooter. The front camera also gives some crispy results. All over you can see that Xiaomi has increased the saturation of the colors in the camera module. But overall it all looks better and awesome.
Xiaomi is always popular for its battery backup. Xiaomi Redmi 4 has Li-Po 4100 mAh capacity Non-removable battery. It can allow you to keep your device away from charger for two days if you using as a moderate -little high usage. Further it can survive with 4G network from early in the morning to late at night with 4G turned on always.
If you are using other 3G or 2 G network, then you can easily sustain the battery juice for about 2 days or 48 hours.
We think it is the best part that Xiaomi Offers to its customers.
If we talk about other features or particularly about sensors. It packs Fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted), Accelerometer sensor, Gyro sensor, Proximity sensor, and Compass sensor.
In connectivity it does not provide NFC, but you have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot Bluetooth- 4.1, A2DP, LE and GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS. Further, there is Infrared port FM radio and USB- microUSB 2.0
There’s not much in the Box, it packs Redmi 4 device, power adapter, USB cable, warranty card, user guide and SIM insertion tool. So, Xiaomi is still going with the no earphone policy.
It is the powerful device at the minimal price that is possible. It hosts big battery which give best battery backup time in this price segment. Further if we talk about the display, then it is 720p display which is enough for the price that you are paying.
It embeds beautiful tweaked camera, which can give you crisp and colorful image. Colors are little accelerated by the Xiaomi in the camera segment.
Further, the Snapdragon 435, which is the latest fleet from the Qualcomm. The best part is the different variants, user can choose which variant that they want to buy on the basis of their needs.
