In 2017, Samsung had advantage over other OEMs when the company entered into a deal with Qualcomm to get initial stock of the Snapdragon 835 chipset to be incorporated in Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. As a result, other major OEMs had to stick with older processors or delayed flagship launches due to shortage in supply of Snapdragon 835 chipsets. A recent report from a Chinese leakster claims that Samsung has yet again gained access to the forthcoming Snapdragon 845 processor.
Reportedly, Samsung could be the first smartphone manufacturer to release the Galaxy S9 series powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC specifically for the US market. Snapdragon 845 could be a 7nm chipset to feature an octa-core processor and Adreno 630 GPU. Qualcomm is expected to announce Snapdragon 845 SoC later this year or at the beginning of 2018. Since Samsung will be releasing Galaxy S9 series in early 2018, there is high possibility that Snapdragon 845 chipset may debut with Samsung S9 smartphones.
Some reports, however, indicate that LG G7 could be the first flagship device to be equipped with Snapdragon 845 SoC. It is still not clear whether LG and Qualcomm have teamed up to release LG G7 with Snapdragon 845 processor. It remains to be seen if LG could do the wonders at this time or Samsung strides ahead with the momentum.
