Its is not long after a leak surfaces that one gets to know about it being true or false. About 3 months back in June, a rumor surfaced alleging the Xiaomi Mi 5S to be bearing Qualcomm’ Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Today, a leak has confirmed it.
Named Snapdragon Sense ID, this technology was unveiled by Snapdragon last year in March. Instead of working by actually being in contact with your finger, the Sense ID works on ultrasonic 3D scanning and can work through all kinds of surfaces like plastic, glass, metal etc. This means that the fingerprint sensor can now be embedded under any surface like the phone’s front glass. You can then unlock the phone by touching anywhere on the screen.
While this sounds like a dream, we’ll have to wait to find out if Xiaomi makes this dream come true. Other specs on the Mi 5S include 6GB RAM, 256GB storage, 16MP rear camera, and 3,490mAh battery.
