The world’s largest smartphone chip maker made some informal announcements. Speaking at the media session while talking about the recent chipsets specification change, Judd Heape, Qualcomm’s Senior Director of Product Management revealed that phones with 100MP and 64MP camera are coming this year.
He added that some OEMs have started working on the 100MP and 64MP sensors. Actual devices will arrive later this year carrying higher resolution cameras.
Qualcomm said that their existing chipsets already support 192MP cameras. All the chipsets such as Snapdragon 660, 670, 675, 210, 845 and 855 support resolution of 192MP without any software or hardware modifications. Features such as noise reduction and HDR won’t work if the chipset uses high-megapixel camera sensors. It won’t allow you to snap burst shots and other smart features.
This year, Xiaomi Mi 9 and Redmi Note 7 Pro made entry with a 48-megapixel camera while using the Snapdragon 600 and 800 series chipsets. Judd revealed that HDR10+ video recording is under works at Qualcomm, and it will find a place on Snapdragon 865. Although, PR manager later reavled that the company haven’t named Snapdragon 865 yet.
We hope in the coming time, major manufacturers would use the updated chipset specifications to boost the camera quality.
