HMD Global, the startup behind Nokia branded Android smartphones unveiled the Nokia 6 2018 in China on 5th January, 2018. It is the company’s first smartphone for the year 2018. The last smartphone was Nokia 7 which was launched in October of 2017. Both Nokia 6 2018 as well as Nokia 7 is only available in China as of now.
Nokia 6 2018 has almost identical specifications to its predecessor – the original Nokia 6. The only differences are the the processor, placement of fingerprint sensor and USB type-C. It does not come with 18:9 display like other smartphones these days which is kind of bummer. Also, it has been launched as exclusive to China at first like its predecessor.
Under the hood, the Nokia 6 2018 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 which is an improvement over its predecessor’s Snapdragon 430. Further, the processor is coupled with 4 GB of RAM and either 32 GB or 64 GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256 GB via microSD card through hybrid sim slot.
As for display, it is the same 5.5 inches FHD display like its predecessor with normal 16:9 aspect ratio. However, the fingerprint sensor on the front is now moved to the back and the capacitive keys are removed in favour of on screen keys.
The cameras also remain the same but with new bothie feature as found on Nokia 8 and Nokia 7. This feature enables users to click pictures or record videos from both front and rear cameras at the same time. The primary camera is a 16 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and phase detection auto focus. Whereas the secondary camera is a 8 MP snapper also with auto focus.
It comes with all the basic connectivity options such as Bluetooth 5.0, 4G, 3G, 2G, WiFi, GPS and USB type-C which was not present in its predecessor. Though it is 2018, the phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Finally, the whole package is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery.
The Nokia 6 2018 is priced at 1,499 yuan and 1,699 yuan for the 32 GB and 64 GB respectively in China. The phone will probably make its way to international markets after MWC 2018.
