OnePlus released its elite flagship, OnePlus 9 this year with 5G support for all variants. But Reportedly, the series lacks some major 5G bands in India. Considering this, the Chinese giant cannot keep it to its promise of providing more updates in the future. Accordingly, OnePlus has decided to provide no more support for 5G bands to the OnePlus 9 lineup.
During the launch of the OnePlus 9 family, the company decided to keep it up-to-date with the latest firmware and connectivity. The company said that the issue can be fixed via the software update, however, it has given a contradictory statement on Twitter.
OnePlus says that the phone will not get any support for additional 5G bands due to some hardware limitations. Moreover, these shortcomings cannot be fixed via a software update as per OnePlus. Though the smartphones still currently support two 5G bands in the country.
If we talk about the US variant of the OnePlus 9, it supports multiple 5G bands: N1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 25, 28, 38, 40, 41, 48, 66, 71, 77, and 78 bands. On the other hand, the Indian model is only equipped with N41 and N78. In addition to this, unlike the US model, the Indian OnePlus 9 also lacks support for wireless charging.
This could mean that OnePlus has used a cheaper modem for the Indian phones of the series, maybe to cut the cost. But this will definitely not sound good to those who purchased the device keeping future technology in mind.
