OnePlus has made an important clarification on its forums. The OnePlus 3/3T OS updates will stop after Android O. Head of Product, Oliver Z at the forums answered a number of important user questions regarding the previous flagships. Both the two devices shipped with Android 6.0 out of the box and so when they get Android O, two major OS updates will be complete.
With that, OnePlus will satisfy Google’s minimum 2 OS update promise. Although the company will continue to back the two devices with security updates.
Oliver Z also said that the Open Beta Program was meant to test new features. That is why many features from there don’t make it to the stable build of OnePlus 3/3T. He said that the OnePlus 5 has received more software attention lately, but the previous twin flagships will soon catch up with Oxygen OS 4.5. Moreover, features like the reading mode and the off-screen gestures depend on hardware that the OnePlus 3/3T don’t have.
The interview is a short one and also answers a number of other questions regarding differences between the OnePlus 5 and last year’s flagships and schedule for Oxygen OS 4.5.
