Nokia was one of the first Android OEMs to update their smartphones to Android 8.0 Oreo. Last October, they announced Nokia Beta Labs, a programme through which users can beta test the latest Android update. The first phone to enter Beta labs was Nokia 8 and it even received the stable update by November end. And now after a month or so, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer tweeted that Nokia 8 users can now apply for Android 8.1 beta update.

Google released the Android 8.1 Oreo back in early December last year along with Android Go. As of now, Android 8.1 Oreo is only available on Google’s lineup which includes the original Pixel and Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Pixel C. This makes Nokia, the only smartphone brand other than Google to offer Android 8.1 first. Thus, if you are a Nokia 8 user and interested in using the latest offering of Android, then apply here.
HMD Global, the startup behind Nokia Android smartphones promised that they would be regularly updating their devices. And they are definitely fulfilling it by delivering monthly security patches even to their lowest offerings such as Nokia 2 and 3. Also, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 are currently on Android 8.0 Oreo beta. Both the devices will be receiving the stable update soon.
