Nearly an year after its launch, Motorola’s one of the best budget offering – Moto G5S Plus is receiving its first major update. Although a bit off from what Motorola was once used to be in terms of software update, it’s party time for the device users with the brand new OS Android Oreo 8.1 finally on their devices. The OTA update seems to be taking gradual rounds globally. See the update notification screenshot below.
Needless to say, Moto makes its version of Android more stock-like with feeble customizations on top. So does the Android Oreo 8.1 on the Moto G5S Plus, with all the goodies of the previously latest Android OS, as such offered by Google. However, the changelog posted over brazilian Moto support page has some additional info to share. It mentioned that new notification controls, improved data and battery saving features, and new battery menu interface are on the table.
The Lenovo owned company is making no compromise in terms of security and has bundled the latest August 1, 2018 SMR with the major upgrade package. Note that, until Google details the new September 2018 patch on its bulletin, the August patch is still latest for us. Moreover, users can expect stability improvements, enhanced multi-tasking ability and other under-the-hood optimizations upon installing the update.
If the update notification has popped-up on your gear, then confirm to download. After successful completion of the download, proceed to install the OTA. Make sure you’ve prepared the device with adequate juice on its powerhouse. In case if the update notification yet didn’t reach upon you, select the Configure icon in the application menu. Then “On the Phone” choose “System Updates” and Select “Download”.
