Motorola is one of those companies recently had a good track record with Android updates. And the Moto G lineup was a testament to that. That combined with Moto’s approach to stock Android made the G line loved by many. But things just got ugly as Motorola recently omitted the Moto G4 line from Android Oreo table. Yup, Motorola recently released a complete list and the Moto G4 is not part of it. That pissed off a lot of people. Especially when Motorola sold these phones with fake promises of Android Oreo. This amounts to stabbing in the back.
But, what’s more outrageous is that Motorola is making it look like they never promised the update in the first place. Here we have a screenshot of a poster which Moto used to woo buyers with Android O clearly written in it. Now the poster is modified and guess what, there is no Android O there.
Another piece of evidence in the case is the Moto G4 Amazon India landing page. There was a video there which promised Android O at 1:02. Now, the video has no trace of that promise. Below is the old video.
The final nail in the coffin is a brochure in Spanish. There is a “Moto Pure” section that clearly states Android N and Android O.
Update: Recently, Motorola gave official statement regarding the issue. Here’s what Motorola said: It’s been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for Moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It’s our general practice for the Moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it’s important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading Moto G4 Plus to Android O. Because this is an unplanned upgrade, it will take some time to fit it into our upgrade schedule. Watch our software upgrade page for more information.
