MediaTek sending invites for the Helio P23 and Helio P30 launch event on August 29

MediaTek’s processors might not be as good as Snapdragon chips, but apparently, they still do sell well. The chip maker is gearing up to launch a mid-range chip named Helio P23 and a somewhat higher end Helio P30. Some Industry insiders have started receiving invites for an event to be held in Beijing on August 29.

Talk around the matter is that the timid Helio P23 will give some teeth to MediaTek against the Snapdragon 450. It will be built on the 16nm process and have an octa-core design. The new chip is also supposed to have 2K screen and dual cameras support. Further, the chip will also support Cat.7 and LPDDR4X memory.

On the other hand, the MediaTek Helio P30 SoC will be manufactured on TSMC’s 12 nm process. It will be endowed of a quad-core design. The setup will include 4 ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked up to 1.5 GHz and 4 ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked up to 1.5 GHz. The P30 will also have Cat.10 support as well as download speeds up to 600 Mbps.

The two chips will likely power Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi handsets. These devices will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. The info comes from a Weibo user who also said that a total of 3 million units of both chips could be sold per month.
