LG Display is pulling up pants as it is going to start manufacturing the Flexible OLED Panels soon. LG Display said in a statement the new plant will begin mass production in the first half of 2017. It did not disclose how much it plans to invest in the facility.
The company also plans to expand to general lighting, automotive markets, and applications of convergence such as furniture merged with OLED panels. Currently, LG is going to make these products for Commercial market later it will shift the focus to Consumer market.
The company will firstly focus on task lighting and decorative lighting in high-end retail stores and in luxury hospitality; and expand to the general lighting market going forward. Also, the company will focus on automotive and convergence applications such as OLED light panels merged with furniture, architectural materials, electronic devices and more.
According to UBI Research, the OLED light market is expected to grow from $135 Million this year to roughly $1.6 billion in 2020.
