MX Player is, perhaps, a staple third-party video player on most of the Android devices out there. Its simplicity and overhauled features necessarily alienated the stock video player provided by the OEM’s from the users. A couple of months ago, the acquisition of the MX player by an Indian media company – Times Internet Limited was considered as a major milestone in its history. Apparently, the effect of this acquisition is now visible with the MX Player now wearing a major transformation as online video streaming platform.
The latest MX Player beta 1.10.0.1 which is now available on Google Play Store interestingly adds a new bottom navigation tab containing two options: Local and Online. The Local section, as usual, lists out the offline videos that are stored on your device. But, the surprise lies in the newly introduced Online section which takes you to the vast and resourceful online world of videos and other medias including musics.
Live TV Channels And Original Shows In Tow
The MX Player online client now offers contents from a variety of genres including romance, thrillers, drama, and non-fiction entertainers. There are many other things such as reality shows and game shows as well as content in Indian regional languages. However, while we click on a movie or music the MX Player requires the support of YouTube app which is more or less disappointing. Nevertheless, let us hope that the developer may soon phase out the need of YouTube while streaming contents.
Moreover, it seems the Times Internet Limited has certain other plans to expand the online library resources up to the level of other prominent players such as Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix etc. For that to achieve, MX Player is speculated to soon release “about 40” original shows. It will also gain ability to stream live TV channels, as well as movies.
Being a major renovation, the Online streaming facility is yet to make it to the stable MX Player. Upon completion of beta testing and once deemed successful, the Online section will be eventually taken to the upcoming stable version.
