Instagram Lite is a lighter version of the Facebook-owned image and video sharing app – Instagram. The company announced that apart from the main app, Instagram Lite will now also support Reels after the update. However, the feature is limited to users in India via the Play Store.
Instagram Lite was launched in India last year at the “Facebook Fuel for India” event. The app weighs less than 2 MB which provides a simple, clean and frill-free experience using less internet bandwidth is easily accessible in low-memory smartphones. However, in order to offer a smoother experience, it lacked some major Instagram features like Reels, Shopping and IGTV.
Recently Facebook announced an update that will now support Reels on Instagram Lite. The post reads, “Now with this update, everyone using the Instagram Lite app in India will be able to view Reels with the Reels tab. This feature was expedited for India because of the traction Reels is seeing in India, and the early adoption of the new Instagram Lite app.”
Within the Instagram Lite, users can now see a dedicated Reels section at the bottom centre just like the main Instagram app. Whereas, users will not be able to create Reels with a Liter version.
