It has been 8 years and still, Instagram does not support portability – an ability to let users download their data and move on. But now as the parent company, Facebook enables users to download their data which was introduced in the year 2010. And such feature is must for any social platform according to the upcoming European GDPR privacy law before May 25th. Thus, Instagram will also soon let users download their data.
It is impossible to download any image or video from Instagram the official way. But, it is possible with the help of third-party applications. However, they can’t be trusted as they are ‘third-party’ in the first place. Anyways, Instagram has now confirmed to TechCrunch that such tool will be made available soon. Though users will be able to download their data, ‘what kind of data’ is still unknown.
Anyways, it is good that Instagram is adding this functionality to their platform as it is must for any social media if users want to quit and move on. In case you are not aware of, the addition of this feature is all because of the recent Facebook data leak scandal. Even WhatsApp reassures users their data is private and encrypted.
