Here’s one more title for India as it has surpassed the U.S. Earlier, India was at the third position and U.S. was standing at 2nd and China is at top.
As per the Counterpoint research, India is at second position in terms of active unique smartphone users, with the total base crossing 220 million users.
“India has inched past USA to become the second largest smartphone market in terms of active unique smartphone user base in the world , with the total base crossing 220 million users,” said Tarun Pathak, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint Research. However he added that, “India still has a long way to go as the smartphone penetration of the total potential population is still below 30 per cent.”
Well, In India, sales of feature phones have declined and overall phones sales forecast is similar. Due to demand of more connected phones users are opting for smartphones. Also LTE trend is making pace in Indian market. Now a days every budget device is coming with LTE capability in it as major telecom operators have rolled out the 4G networks.
There’s a lot more of connectivity is required for the users as India is still lagging behind as only 30% population is using smartphones. There’s a long way to go and we hope soon India will be catching China and connectivity will get boost in rural areas.
