Latest network speed report by TRAI for the month of September, ranks Idea Cellular as the highest upload speed providing carrier. The Aditya Birla group owned telecom operator registered an average upload speed of 6.307Mbps in last month to top the rankings.
Meanwhile, Vodafone occupied second position in the ranking followed by RJIL and Airtel. However, in terms of download speed it wasn’t the case. The new entrant Reliance Jio bagged the pole position in download speed rankings followed by Airtel. Idea Cellular registered only an average download speed of 8.74Mbps, contrary to the massive 18.34Mbps average download speed registered by Jio.
Anyway, Idea Cellular seems to be overwhelmed by this TRAI report. In a statement the company said
it has rapidly expanded the network to 2.60 lakh sites across the country, with 50 percent dedicated to mobile broadband services. The company also said, it added nearly 50,000 broadband sites over the last 12 months to August, growing its broadband footprint to cover 5,888 census towns and close to 1.05 lakh villages and reaching out to 45 percent population of the country.
The rankings was solely based on the calculations and algorithm employed in TRAI’s official My Speed app. But, the methods adopted by TRAI in the network speed and analysing app is still unknown. However, the telecom regulator had promised to publicise its evaluation method after discussing with the prominent operators, so as to make it more transparent.
