Huawei is undoubtedly one of the best smartphone manufacturers in the market right now. With their Huawei P20 Pro handset, they’ve proved what a Chinese brand can do. Now some-more mind-boggling news is there and we have to say Huawei is going an extra mile to achieve the crown for best smartphone brand. IFA 2018 is going on and there Huawei made an announcement about its hot Hi-Silicon Kirin 980 chipset which was in rumors for a long now. It packs a lot of features which have been introduced for the first time in a smartphone processor.
As its name suggests Kirin 980 is the successor to the old Kirin 970 processor which powers P20 Pro, Honor Play, etc. In short, it is the world’s first commercial mobile processor which is based on 7nm manufacturing process and has a dedicated Dual Neural Processing unit. It is an Octa-Core processor which comprises 4 x ARM Cortex A76 Cores and 4 x ARM Cortex A55 Cores. All this power comes coupled with a Mali-G76 GPU for handling graphical tasks. It supports LTE Cat.21 which enables it to offer speeds up to 1.4Gbps.
It packs 6.9 billion transistors and offers 20% improved performance, 40% improved efficiency over the old 10nm process. As announced by Huawei, the Kirin 980 delivers 75% improved performance and 58% better energy efficiency when compared to the Kirin 970 SoC. It also is the world’s first SoC to use a 10-Core Mali-G76 GPU which along with Huawei’s GPU Turbo can do miracles. Mate 20-series devices will be the first to get this chip and are expected to be unveiled on 20th September.
