Huawei officially unveils Mate 10 series with AI, dual cameras and much more

Huawei officially took wraps off the Mate 10 series at an event in Munich, Germany. The Mate 10 series boasts about being the first smartphones with dedicated AI processing unit built-in.

The Mate 10 series consists of three devices and they are the regular Mate 10, the Mate 10 Pro and the luxurious Mate 10 Porsche Design. The Latter two share same specifications except for the design and memory configurations. The Mate 10 sports a 5.9 inches FullView QHD LCD display with regular 16:9 aspect ratio. Whereas the Pro and the Porsche Design comes with a 6 inches Full View FHD+ OLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The fingerprint sensor is placed below the display on the Mate 10 but it rests on the back for the other two.

Under the hood, the trio is powered by Huawei’s in-house HiSilicon Kirin 970. It is an Octa-core CPU with 4 Cortex A73 cores at 2.36 GHz, 4 Cortex A53 at 1.8 GHZ and a i7 co-processor. It also comes with 12 core Mali-G72 MP12 GPU and a dedicated AI processing unit known as NPU (Neural Processing Unit).The Mate 10 comes with 4GB RAM/64GB ROM, the Pro has 6GB RAM/128GB ROM and the Porsche Design features 6GB RAM/256GB ROM. Further, the trio is backed by a 4000mAh battery with Huawei’s SuperCharge technology for fast charging.

For optics, the trio comes with dual camera setup which includes a 12MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor co-engineered with Leica. Both the sensors have f/1.6 aperture, but OIS is present only in the RGB one. On the front, there is an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calls. The cameras can take bokeh shots, can recognise the subjects without internet connectivity and translate in real time with the help of AI.

The Mate 10 retains the headphone jack and expandable storage but comes with only IP53 certification. On the other hand, the Pro and the Porsche Design eliminates the headphone jack and expandable storage but comes with IP67 certification. The Mate 10 will be available in Mocha Brown, Black, Champagne Gold and Pink Gold color variants. The Pro comes in Midnight Blue, Titanium Gray, Mocha Brown and Pink Gold. The Porsche Design will only come in Diamond Black.

All the three runs on EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Finally, the Mate 10 will retail at €699, wheras the Pro and Porsche Design will retail at €799 and €1,399 respectively.
