Google has pulled out the Google Play Edition of the HTC One (M7), LG G Pad 8.3 and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra from the Play Store.
GPE stands for ‘Google Play Edition’, a variant of the device developed in alliance with Google which runs on Stock android. GPE devices have been pretty popular these days as they receive the first dose of updates than their normal variants.
The concept of GPE was introduced at last year’s Google I/O, with Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One (M7) being the first smartphones ever to get their GPE and wre soon followed by an array of smartphones. Though the GPE of Samsung Galaxy S4 is still available on the Play Store (it however has been out of stock for some time), the HTC One (M7) has not been so lucky and has been pulled out from the Play Store along with Sony’s Z Ultra phablet and LG’s G Pad 8.3 tablet. This leaves us with the Moto G, HTC One (M8), Google Nexus 5 and the Galaxy S4.
There had been rumors that a GPE of Samsung’s current flagship the Galaxy S5 is on its way but there has been no news about that.
