HTC announces VIVE Pro VR headset at CES 2018

Though HTC’s smartphone business is going down, the Taiwanese giant is growing strong in the Virtual Reality segment with their VIVE products. At CES 2018, the company updated their VIVE VR headset by announcing a Pro version. The newer version comes with higher resolution display and in built headphones.

The resolution of dual OLED displays is now increased to 2880 x 1600 (i.e., 1400 x 1600 per eye) with 615 ppi from 2160 x 1200 resolution of regular VIVE headset. Which means the resolution is now increased by 78%. Thus, the new VIVE Pro becomes the only VR headset with such high resolution displays.

This new VR headset from HTC also comes with improved headstrap with a sizing dial. It also comes with headphones buillt in, thus users don’t require a separate pair of headphones connected to the headset. Further, it features dual cameras as well as dual microphones for immersive experience. However, it depends on developers to make use of them

HTC also announced the VIVE Wireless Adapter based on Intel’s WiGig tech. This will enable both the VIVE and VIVE Pro VR headsets connect to the computer wireless. Finally, the Viveport VR store got a design overhaul and contents from Vimeo.

However, HTC did not reveal the pricing and availability of their newest VR offering yet.

Recently, Oculus partnered with Xiaomi for the launch of MI VR Standalone in China. It backs same design as like of the Oculus Go and will be limited to China only.
