Last year, HMD Global revived the classic phone brand Nokia at MWC – Mobile World Congress 2017. And within a year, they even managed to acquire a position in the top ten smartphone manufacturers list. Moving on, this year at MWC 2018, they announced some wonderful devices all under Android One programme. And yes, who would forget the elephant in the room – the 2018 Nokia 8110 4G AKA ‘Banana Phone’. Now, HMD Global plans to bring all of them one by one to India from April.
HMD Global’s CEOÂ Florian Seiche said that the company plans to expand their presence in their key markets like India to increase their share in the pie. He also adds that 4G feature phone is perfect for the people who are into traditional phones for a long time. These phones may help them experience the data world which is flourishing.
Thus, HMD Global plans to bring their newly announced Nokia 8110 4G to India with a local telecom partnership. Going by the success of JioPhone, it is sure that this will work for Nokia as well if and only if it is priced reasonably. According to Ajey Mehta, the India head of HMD Global, the company has already initiated discussions with Foxconn to increase the production of phones in the country.
Further, Mr. Mehta also says their firm plans to increase their offline presence by 10% as it is their core strength. But, they will also continue the online channels as it is required to become a successful player. And starting April, the company plans to bring all their new offerings to India. The list includes the Android One powered Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Android Go powered Nokia 1. Strangely, the company did not mention anything about the Nokia 6 2018 for the country.
