Google updates list of Chrome OS devices that have or will receive Android apps

Chromebooks have one of their prime features running Android apps from the Play Store. At Google I/O 2016, Google confirmed that Android applications would be available on supported Chromebooks, via the Google Play Store. However, it has not been easy to confirm exactly when each model would get this feature, until now.

Google has now updated its list of Chrome OS devices to clarify the status of the Play Store for each product.

Chrome OS has different channels, i.e. Stable, beta, and development channels. While most of the Chromebooks use the Stable (release) channel, beta and development channels are available as well. Until now, the listed devices with the Play Store on the Stable channel are:

  • ASUS Chromebook Flip
  • Acer Chromebook R11
  • Google Chromebook Pixel

The list has now an updated status for each device i.e. Stable, Beta and Planned. If your Chromebook isn’t on the list, it probably won’t be getting the Play Store. Most of them are ‘Planned’ to receive the Play Store, but a few devices have been updated to reflect the current status:

  • Acer Chromebook R13 – Beta Channel
  • AOpen Chromebox Mini – Stable Channel
  • AOpen Chromebase Mini – Stable Channel
  • ASUS Chromebook Flip C302 – Beta Channel
  • Samsung Chromebook Plus – Stable Channel
