Recently, OnePlus started rolling out Oxygen OS 5.0.1 update to OnePlus 3 and 3T with some new features and December security patch. But, the users who have updated their phones to this latest version were prompted to uninstall an harmful app by Google Play Protect. This harmful app is none other than Factory Mode. It was previously known as Engineer Mode held responsible for easy root access.
In case you do not remember. OnePlus rolled out the Android Oreo update to the OnePlus 3 / 3T is November. After that, the now rolling Oxygen OS 5.0.1 is the first major update fixing various bugs. The update also brings Qualcomm’s aptX HD Bluetooth audio codec, adaptive mode screen calibration, new WiFi hotspot device manager and the December Security Patch.
But as we mentioned earlier, the Factory Mode app is being prompted to uninstall by Google Play Protect in this new update. This app is used by the manufacturer to test the hardware of the phone. Further, it is also used by people at after sales support to test the device. But, the question is why this app is reported as harmful by Google Play Protect ? Earlier the app was known as Engineer Mode and could easily exploit root access which was however fixed as well as renamed by OnePlus.
