Google Play Movies & TV has now offers HDR cast support to compatible Nvidia Shield TV and Sony Smart TVs. It is to be noted that HDR videos will play only after enabling HDR playback that produces improved picture quality, richer colors, and looks more like real life. Moreover, it will only work if it’s casted from another device. According to Google’s 4K/HDR support page, in order to play the HDR content, you also require a stable internet connection that is capable of offering a consistent download speed of at least 15 megabits per second or even higher.
Google has earlier confirmed that HDR content on Google Play & Movies will be initially available in the U.S. and Canada. Google has kept the promise and has started expanding the support to compatible hardware devices. Though it still requires to be cast from another device.
At launch, Google Play Movies & TV just supported a handful of HDR movies which has been increased manifolds by now. You can now access a weighty list of HDR movies available on Google Play Movies & TV.
