At the Google I/O 2021, the company said to release an enhanced memories function to Google Photos. Following this, the Android users are finally receiving an update that provides a shortcut to having a glimpse of your memories without opening the app specifically. To be more clear, The update added a Memories widget that was only limited to iOS users since now.
When you visit the Google Photos app, you will see some albums named Memories. These albums often arrive as a pop-up notification on your Android smartphone. Also, they appear at the top of the Photos app for easy reach.
As the name suggests, Memories display pictures from the past based on certain criteria. For instance, pictures clicked on the same day in a different year, images that have similar colors, similar people, photos taken at specific times, and so on.
The Memories widget is targeted at those who don’t actually go to the Google Photos app but wish to see the old pictures time-to-time. This step by Google will probably get more people to upload their photos to Google Photos.
As expected, the update is presently limited to certain users. Finally, the users who are running version 5.52.0.0387241369 have started seeing the new widget. Whereas, the feature has been available for iOS users for almost ten months now.
Talking about the widget display, it will come in a default 2×2 size. As usual, the user can adjust the size according to their preferences. To mention that it is not sure if the user will have any power to control the kind of memories that will be displayed in the widget.
