As a sudden change, Google has removed the request a ride via Uber feature without explaining any reason. Google has removed the feature of direct Uber Booking from the Google Maps. Currently, the feature is redirecting the user to direct Uber App to book a ride.
Since the launch of this feature, Google was advertising this feature via different means. They have even highlighted it as a main feature of the app. Users were able to book ride without moving to any third party app other than the Uber. We have seen many users using this feature on daily basis.
Beside the such popularity, we are unable to guess, why Google has suddenly disarmed the Direct Uber ride booking feature. It seems, some behind the doors meetings are not getting on the right node. The information is confirmed from one of Google Maps help pages, where they state that “you can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps.”
