Google Maps and Earth Receives Sharper Satellite Imagery

Google has finally rolled out the sharper imagery of the satellite view in Google Maps and Earth. Now, you can see the maps and views in much detailed way rather than it was earlier.

Google has updated the Satellite view database using the Landsat 8 satellite which was launched by NASA in 2013 to snap photos of Earth in higher detail than were possible before. Landsat 8 has a camera capable of up to 15m per pixel resolution. The new Earth mosaic was assembled from nearly a petabyte of Landsat images to remove all the clouds that normally obscure a large swath of the globe.

700 trillion pixels is 7,000 times more pixels than the estimated number of stars in the Milky Way Galaxy, or 70 times more pixels than the estimated number of galaxies in the Universe. 

Google also thanked the Landsat program and its commitment to free and accessible open data.
