Back in 2010, Google introduced ‘Instant Search’ as a new and revolutionary feature. This new feature predicted what you were searching for and displayed similar results as you typed. At that time, when most of the search traffic was coming from desktops, the feature was quite useful and time-saving for the users.
Since the scenario has altogether different now and over 50 percent of Google searches are coming from mobile devices. Google has now decided to storm out its trademark Instant Search feature. As Google search on mobile devices is a whole different story than traditional desktop searches. Google has been continuously working to make mobile searches even better and faster.
Now when you perform a search on your smartphone, you will still be able to see search suggestions. However, the results will not load unless you click on a search suggestion or press Enter.
In a statement given to Search Engine Land, a Google spokesperson explained “We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.”
Google further clarified that this change is to make search “more fluid on all devices” and we understand Google’s approach to offer you the best-ever search experience.
