Steps to Nexus 5X Soft Reset

• Open the Settings Application on the Nexus 5X
• Find the ‘Backup & Reset’ Option
• Tap on the ‘Reset Phone’ Button at the Bottom of the Screen
• Then Tap on the ‘Erase Everything’ Button
• Wait for the Nexus 5X to Reboot and Factory Reset Your Data

Steps to Hard Factory Reset Nexus 5X 

1. Power Down the Nexus 5X
2. Boot the Nexus 5X into Fastboot Mode into Recovery Mode (Scroll down to see if you don’t know how to access Recovery Mode)
3. Press the Volume Down Button Until the ‘Wipe Data/Factory Reset’ Option is Highlighted
4. Press the Power Button to Select This Option
5. At the Confirmation Prompt, Press the Volume Down Button to Highlight the ‘Yes – Delete All User Data’ Option
6. Then Press the Power Button to Select This Option
7. Wait Until the Factory Reset is Completed
8. When Done, Make Sure the ‘Reboot System Now’ Option is Highlighted
9. Then Press the Power Button to Select This Option and Reboot the Nexus 5X

How to boot your Nexus 5X to Recovery Mode

1. Switch off your Nexus 5X.
2. Now press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons simultaneously until you see the fastboot mode options on your device.
3. Once you see the fastboot options, you can let go of the two buttons.
4. In Fastboot mode, press the Volume Down button twice to highlight the Recovery Option.
5. When the Recovery option is highlighted, press the Power button to enter the recovery mode. You’ll get a black screen with green Android lying down. Press and hold the Power button, then press the Volume Up button to enter the recovery mode.
6. Now, you can see the recovery options on your device.

Flash Factory Image

This method is not at all recommended but useful in extreme cases. Nonetheless, it’s good to know to install a factory image will erase all data from the device, and requires unlocking of the bootloader which will make your device less secure.
