Google Modular Phone, which came into talks in 2013 has met an end with sudden cancellation of project. The new head of hardware at Google, Rick Osterloh, after Regina Dugan (former head which left job at Google and joined Facebook), has cancelled the project.
It is all of sudden, as last year at Google IO, company promised users for modular device in 2017.
Venturebeat was also in touch with Google Ara project’s team. As per the Harrison Weber from VB, Ara’s popularity was kickstarted by a confusing relationship with Phonebloks, a viral video for a modular smartphone made by Dutch designer Dave Hakkens. Later, Google even collaborated and did many experiments on the design with hakkens.
Google idea was to sell this modular phone for $50 in developing nations. They were watching it as a new device which will connect the next Billion to the Internet.
