OnePlus is a smartphone brand known for its premium phones and a limited portfolio. The brand recently rolled out Android 11 to the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus 7 Series. However, the company recently revealed that the OnePlus 6 and 6T won’t receive the Android 11 treatment before August. That’s quite late considering that the Android 12 reveal along with Google I/O is just around the corner. However, enthusiastic owners willing to install a custom ROM can get their hands on Android 11 right away as Android 11-based LineageOS has been announced for the OnePlus 6 and 6T.
LineageOS 18.1 for OnePlus 6 and 6t
For those unaware, LineageOS is a community-driven open-source project based on Android. Numerous devices have already received the latest Android updates thanks to LineageOS and its developers.
The Android 11 based LineageOS update is already available for download for the OnePlus 6T and the OnePlus 6 as nightly builds. The update comes bundled with the April 2021 security patch.
Android 11 comes with various new features such as enhanced privacy, a built-in screen recorder, dynamic volume controls, enhanced power menu, and so on. However, installing a custom ROM isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Therefore, it is advised to proceed with caution and risk. The process may involve and lead to data loss or internal damage to the device in case of a user error during the process.
Devices nowadays are getting longer software support thanks to the custom ROM community. This extends the life of the device even after the brand stops supporting it. OnePlus 6/6T users can now experience an Android 11 based Stock Android experience thanks to LineageOS. Both the devices were launched in 2019 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and FHD+ AMOLED displays. On the front, the 6T sports a tear-drop notch while the OnePlus 6 carries a relatively larger notch.
