Chromecast with Google TV is one of the best media streaming device available with support for several apps. However, it has a major flaw i.e inability to switch between profiles at a device level rather they need to switch profiles manually for a device. It does not support multi-users which intercept us from having different profiles.
Google TV does not support multi profiles which means kids are not restricted from accessing all the YouTube content and other apps. Google may release kids profiles very soon. However, there is no mention of multi profiles yet.
In a response on Google Issue Tracker, the Google representative told, “Just wanted to post an update that Kids Profiles should be rolling out in the next month (or so). Restricted profiles are indeed deprecated in [Google TV] and replaced by the new feature “Kids Profiles”, which allows you to set up a safe space for kids on Google TV. During onboarding, you can choose what apps to make available to kids. YouTube Kids is available by default and other installed apps required parent opt-in before they are made available to the kid. Leaving the kids profile can be restricted by a PIN to prevent kids from accidentally going back to the parent account.”
The above news was mentioned by a Google Issue Tracker post. He mentioned the importance of this problem and a separate profile for kids as a solution.
Google is working to make its services and products family-friendly over the last year. However, it will be more sophisticated if multi-profile were introduced.
