Android OEMs confirm that they don’t slow down smartphones like Apple

Last week, Apple confirmed that they slow down iPhones with older batteries when a benchmark comparison proved it. Since then, many Android OEMs confirmed that they don’t slow down smartphones like Apple.

Before Christmas, Apple confirmed that they slow down older iPhones because of their batteries with software update. However, the performance can be retained once the battery is replaced with a new one. Apple also cut down the battery replacement price for iPhone 6 or later to $29. Previously it would cost $79. The new price will go live from late January till December 2018.

Meanwhile, major Android OEMs came forward saying that they don’t slow down smartphones like Apple. Starting with HTC and Motorola, whose spokespersons said that they don’t cut down performance in their smartphones as batteries age. HTC stated that slowing down smartphones “is not something we do”. Whereas Motorola stated, “We do not throttle CPU performance based on older batteries”.

The Korean tech giants – Samsung and LG also confirmed that they don’t throttle devices with older batteries. LG said, “Never have, never will! We care what our customers think”. On the other hand, Samsung said, “We do not reduce CPU performance through software updates over the lifecycles of the phone.”

Lets see what other OEMs have to say in coming days. Until then, let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
