Android Auto gets split-screen support on dashboards with bigger screen
Recently, Google updated Android Auto with several new features like message scheduling, a dark theme for Google Maps, custom wallpapers, voice-activated games, launch screen shortcuts, and so on. Also, the search giant pushed several patches and bug fixes say, fix for issues impacting Android Auto, issues that caused the phone to reboot automatically when connected to the car, and more. Now, the recent Android Auto 6.1 update packs support for split-screen on cars with wide-screen dashboards.
Clearly, the split-screen mode allows users to run two separate applications side by side. Users could get particulars of multiple apps with a glance at a single screen. The split-screen feature support navigation apps, phone call information, music players, and calendar integration.
The primary app takes a large portion of the screen on the left while the right side is covered by the secondary app on a smaller portion. It has already started appearing for some Android Auto users. For instance, while driving you can see navigation on the left and media player on the right.
However, the rider has the power to switch between the app positions. This means, if you switch to another app, it will appear on the left, and the previous left side app will automatically shift to the right side, ending the app prior displayed on that portion.
As mentioned, the Split-screen feature is currently available for cars with wider screens. Google will soon find a way to adjust for smaller head units as well.
