Google has announced its New Android Auto project for your cars. Android Auto basically brings messaging, navigation, entertainment, media playback and other apps to cars via a smartphone. It automatically brings you useful information, and organizes it into simple cards that appear just when they’re needed. The apps run on an Android smartphone, which plugs into an in-car display via a USB port.
Hyundai was first to bring Android Auto to its dashboard, and today ten car models in a few countries have Android Auto. There is one reqirement for your android smartphone is that Android Auto is designed to work with Android phones running 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher.
Android Auto competes with Apple’s CarPlay, which provides a similar way to use the iPhone in a car. About 100 car models in the market or coming soon support CarPlay.
