Xiaomi has just started rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo update for Mi A1 devices. The update changelog, however, did not state Android 8.1 Oreo and just lists security update. It is a sizable update weighing around 1.15GB that brings June security patch with a variety new features and performance improvement. However, it has been reported that the update also includes some critical bugs. Earlier this year, Xiaomi cancelled rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update due to some bug fixes.
According to some users who installed this update caused to wipe their SMS history. The issue crops up when you swipe away the messages app in the recent apps menu. Therefore, it is recommended that you backup your messages via third-party apps available on Google Play Store. Moreover, it is quite alarming that the latest update also fails to run SafetyNet, a Google security API that thoroughly checks whether a device has been tampered with when compared to an expected normal and safe state.
While it is quite alarming To sum up, this update brings a couple of issues as outline above and rest everything seems to be good. It is worth noting that the update is said to bring some minor changes to the device. It includes improvement of audio quality, some other added features include an updated launcher, addition of battery indicator for connected Bluetooth devices, an adaptive SystemUI that changes color based on your wallpaper and addition of some new emojis.
