Xiaomi launched a bunch of budget smartphones in the year 2017. Most of them were exclusively to their home country China. However, some popular ones made its way to other markets like India and Indonesia. We all know that Xiaomi devices are popular among people including developers because of their hardware at incredibly affordable price. But, the company is also well known for not providing kernel sources quicker.
In case you do not know, Xiaomi is yet to release the kernel sources for their now popular Android One device Mi A1 which was launched back in September 2017. However, that’s not the case with Redmi 5A, Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 lite, all of which are cheaper than the Mi A1. Due to the timely release of their kernel sources, these devices now have official TWRP recovery support.
A custom recovery is necessary to install a custom ROM in any device. Now as official TWRP is available for the Redmi 5A, Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 lite respectively, number of custom ROMs will come out of nowhere for these devices. But for Xiaomi Mi A1 users, they will have to still wait more.
