We’ve just had this month’s Android OS distribution stats handed to us 2 days back and Android Oreo has appeared for the first time in it. Disappointingly, with a share of 0.2%, that’s the reality of Android fragmentation, there’s still much way to go. However many OEMs have started work on their top-tier devices and we should see a jump by the end of the year when most promises of Oreo get fulfilled, hopefully.
We can add the Huawei Mate 9 to that list now. New evidence confirms it is one of those devices that are in advance stages of getting Oreo. Notably, the Mate 9 is the flagship, and it is no surprise seeing it close to Oreo. Some XDA members reportedly got a hold of a beta build of Android Oreo with EMUI 6. Further, they have found some great features digging into it.
The beta build has resolution scaling settings like Samsung. In detail, a button that hides the navigation bar like in the Galaxy S8 and also PiP mode. The update presumably also brings notification channels and a floating button to replace the navigation bar.
We expect the stable version of the EMUI 6 to soon get out for Mate 9 and other compatible devices.
