So, Samsung has really made the Infinity Display concept mainstream. After the Mi MIX made heads turn, Samsung added its own twist in the design and took bezel-less to another level by making a curved display with thin bezels. The Galaxy S8 was the first with such an Infinity Display. The impact it had on their sales figures doesn’t need to be reported. But now that Samsung’s been there, done that, the big question is, What’s next?
Well, the next avenue is foldable phones. Now, we have been hearing echoes of this concept for some time now, especially with regards to Samsung. One report last year even stated 2017 to be the year of foldable phones but Samsung debunked that myth. Now, we have official confirmation from Samsung Mobile Chief, DJ Koh that indeed a foldable phone is coming next year. The Mobile Chief revealed the info during an event in Korea and it is the first time there is official confirmation of such a device.
A report from ZDNet states that Samsung might launch the foldable phone under the Note series. At present, the Korean OEM is tackling the implementation problem of the foldable screen on a handset. “We don’t want to just sell a couple of the phones. We want it to be mass-ready and at a technological level where people will say it is a well-made phone,” the report quoted DJ Koh as saying. Furthermore, we don’t know when this foldable phone will launch in 2018 as the executive remains mum about it.
