Google expects 11 Daydream-Ready phones by end of the year

In a recent earnings call, Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. reported more than 20 percent hike in its total revenue for Q2 2017 when compared to the same period during last year. While communicating the financial results, Google’s CEO and the newest member on Alphabet’s board, Sundar Pichai stated that there will be eleven Daydream-Ready Android smartphones available to consumers by the end of this year.

At this moment, there is only a handful of Daydream-compatible smartphones available in the marketplace. To be named specifically, Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z, Huawei Mate 9 Pro, ZTE Axon 7, and Asus Zenfone AR are the few smartphones that support Google’s Daydream project. Samsung has recently joined the league by giving thumbs up to Daydream support for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with a software update already rolling-out.

While successors to Pixel, Pixel XL and Moto Z should come out with Daydream compatibility, there are hardly any new devices to be released with Daydream compatibility, at least by the end of this year. If Google really has some major ambitions to expand its Daydream VR technology, it should work collectively with all major OEMs to develop Daydream-Ready devices in the near future.

Well, we really want some more devices to be Daydream-ready in 2017.
