Business Korean Reports have revealed that Samsung’s LSI (Large Scale Integration) division has started its work with a custom CPU core for application processor. We all know about company’s contribution in memory chip business and also that company produces custom AP’s for Apple and now company has taken another step towards Semiconductor Industry.
Back in 2013, Samsung said that company will build its own 64-bit core ,will be its successor to the current 64-bit ARM implementation as seen in Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. But now rather than licensing the reference Cortex-A designs provided by ARM, company will be working on its own 64-bit CPU core design.
Reports suggest that Samsung is expecting results from this new CPU core by 2016. Company now seems to be less reliant on Qualcomm SoCs and technologies developed by other companies. Though the development and research on CPU core will be costly, company is looking forward and expecting positive results.
