Finally Cannonical today announced Ubuntu for Smartphone and touchscreen tablets after a long wait. The same os will function like a full desktop OS when connected to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth demoed a very impressive looking operating system.
He also said that Ubuntu for smartphone doesn’t use a Java Virtual Machine like Ubuntu for Android which was announced last year and promises to use “the full power of the phone.” Supporting both ARM and x86 processors.
Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth said, We are confident that Ubuntu will ship on phones from large manufacturers in 2013, We think these things can converge both on the front end and under the hood, One of the core visions is complete convergence of the platform from phone to supercomputer.”
Proper Ubuntu phones are promised to be out in early 2014.
